Archive Sub-Level C is the deepest accessible level of the Central Archive – a windowless concrete room twelve metres below street level, reached only by a spiral staircase of ribbed steel whose treads ring under every step like a countdown. The level was sealed after the 'Incident of 2131' (classified, no enquiries): a steel door with three deadbolts, one of which does not match the Bureau standard key.
