A lane of stalls under the arcades behind the Umbrarium that opens at dusk and closes at the first grey, where lesser shadows are bought and let by the night. Each stall is a white canvas screen with a lamp before it; the seller stands, and their penny shadows fall on the screen for the buyer to inspect: this one steady, that one quick, this one has sat with the dying before.
