The gasworks of Glimhaven, built over the first and greatest seep: a hall of iron on piles above the water, where the Breath is caught under great bells, washed, measured and sent into the pipes. A wall of pressure gauges faces the door, every needle with its own small lamp. The engineers record the readings each tide in a book with a lock. The needles have been falling for eleven years.
