Chrysanthe is the most famous voice in Myrmecopolis, and she has never once spoken above a hum. She composes for the Mycelium Choir in stridulation, the chirp an ant makes by drawing one segment of her body across another, and she was the first to write music both peoples can hear at once: chorales in which ant choirs stridulate and elephant herds rumble beneath them, and the whole city feels the harmony through its feet. She is warm, vain, theatrical and generous; she calls everyone "darling" ...
