residence
Ibrahim's house at the back of the Gardens, a plain brick cottage with a workshop and a long potting shed, where no one speaks aloud. The house is lit for eyes, not ears: a lamp by every door, mirrors at the corners of the corridors, chairs arranged so that everyone can see everyone's hands. Wren lives in the room next to the workshop. Behind the shed, under a sheet of canvas, is a bed of plants that move in no wind: the bed for a language that has no sound.
